Teoh Hoong Boon (Julius) | 0338478 Information Design Project 2 - Field Study Module Info Field Study and Data Collection It is time for the awaited field trip to Japan for data collection. While I expected the land of the rising sun to be rich in culture, the expectation did little to brace me for the experience. The country is beautiful, filled with so much to see that can give you a new lease on life. There is so much to take in and so much to observe. yet why do i feel so restricted... The data collection for our topic could have gone better though. Between the mid winter weather, the lack of any significant events during the duration of our visit, and the workplace policies, we found quite a few difficulties in collecting data. This is particularly so for the cosplay aspect of our topic as less people dress up in winter and the lack of events also does little to change that. Nonetheless, below is what data we did manage to collect.

Teoh Hoong Boon (Julius) | 0338478 Information Design Project 1 - Proposal Module Info Pre-Trip Proposal This module consists of a project that spans multiple parts throughout the semester. It involves a field study in the city of Tokyo, Japan where our theme was to explore the idea of mythology. But unlike the traditional expectation of mythology which usually features gods, myths, and divinity stories, the lecturers actually expect something relating more to modern cultural development that has its roots in something from the past. Which, to be frank, was more than a little confusing... Nonetheless, we get into groups of four people(with some exceptions) and begin considering topics. After several sessions of idea tossing, our team initially proposed exploring the deity Inari, and its potential relation to reverence in modern businesses. Alas, the idea was not received well, and since there was such an undeniable, unfaltering, unwavering, unending, unstoppable...

Teoh Hoong Boon (Julius) | 0338478 Information Design Final Project Progression Module Info Final Project - Animated Infographic Narrative and Storyboard For the final project, the task given to us was to design and animate an infographic video of at least 1 minute and 30 seconds to at most 3 minutes. This project is a group assignment consisting of four people per group (with some exceptions). The theme my group was given is Men vs Women, and we were to think of a medium in which we could explore this theme. Our group decided with the realm of social media usage between the two genders. The first step to any video and animation production would be to consider the narrative and the data to deliver. Below is a our take on the narrative for the video. Narrative of Infographic Video Breakdown of voice lines. With the narrative in hand, the next step was to consider the visual style and storyboard. After we had an idea of the art direction, w...

Teoh Hoong Boon (Julius) | 0338478 Information Design Project 1 & 2 Progression Module Info Project 1 - Instructable Infographic Recipe Poster Design As the title suggests, for this project we are tasked with the creation of recipe infographic poster design. One that features and utilizes all the design principles we've encountered in classes which will be then animated in the next project. My recipe of choice is Creme Brulee. And as a certain man once said, "Creme Brulee, coming from France, obviously, is a dish best served cold. Made of cream... In the same time that they said let them eat cake they also said let them eat cream. And that's what we're gonna be making today." - Markiplier, 2019 . And a recipe inforgraphic for which, I will be making for this project. The recipe for my reference being here .   Early Sketches.   Initially I considered some potential methods of portraying the process. One way was t...

Information Design - Exercises

Teoh Hoong Boon (Julius) | 0338478 Information Design Exercise Compilation Module Info Exercises Quantifiable charts For this exercise, we were tasked with arranging and organizing a set of items according to attributes. The items in question were either buttons of various sizes or Lego bricks of varying colors and shapes. The idea being to physically create a graph that consists of the items in question.  Types of arrangement methods explored.    Attributes of the blocks noted. After exploring several methods of arranging the bricks, I decided to use the one shown below. Arrangement Used.  This particular arrangement is done in the form of color versus variety density. That is to say, how dense is the varieties of shapes in a particular color range. The next step would be to draw the actual graph around the segments and label.    Graph without bricks. Final Outcome of Graph Arrangement....
